Criminal Justice Reform Public Awareness Issues
This page is dedicated to bringing public awareness to various issues that violate the civil rights of citizens when they become subjects of the criminal justice system.
The current topic is Absolute Privilege, also know as Absolute Immunity. This is a legal privilege that provides total immunity for jurists (judges and prosecutors) and members of law enforcement from civil suit when they commit acts of misconduct that result in the wrongful prosecution of a defendant. These acts may include; excessive use of force during an arrest or detainment, introduction of false and or misleading statements, falsification of evidence, supression of evidence and or rendering erroneous decisions based on bias and intentionally generated prejudice that ignors any evidence that could exonerate that individual.
It is an unethical layer of privilege that protects government officials and members of the criminal justice system from being held accountable when they intentionally or unintentionally violate the civil rights of an individual in a criminal or civil court proceeding. It should be abolished so that they can be held accountable to the same rules of law that all citizens must abide by.
